The morning was dreary
and overcast. This type of weather makes you want to crawl back into bed, but
there is always something to be done out here. This morning Kristy and I weeded
and transplanted in the greenhouse. Some of the plants removed were edible for
the chickens, so the chickens got some extra greens today. In the garden I
transplanted some tomato babies that will hopefully be growing big soon. I also took some of the lamb’s quarter, an
indigenous weed, and transplanted it by the chicken coop because chickens like
it.
After a short workout
Kristy, Ginger, and I had a full day in the kitchen. I used a food mill to
remove the juice from highland cranberries and some cherries. The juice from
the cranberries was spraying everywhere so by the end of that chore I was
covered in red juice splotches. Tomorrow we will probably be doing something
with the juice, but we aren’t sure what. While I was grinding the fruit, Kristy
made some homemade granola that was delicious!
At the end of our kitchen
adventures Kristy and I made cranberry pistachio energy bites. These suckers
have a lot of fiber and protein that make them the perfect snack before a
workout. By the time this was finished it was time for dinner. We had sockeye
salmon, salad, sweet potatoes, and beets. It was a delicious dinner which we
followed up with a movie and popcorn in the whirly-pop. Right before everyone
said goodnight Ginger and Bentley wrestled in the living room. It was quite a
sight to see a five-year-old getting thrown around the living room and smacked
by pillows. What a fun-filled night with plenty of laughs all around!
