Today Ginger left for
town. She is running a few errands and then will be going to visit a friend’s
place on another part of Kodiak Island. After helping her load up the skiff,
Kristy, Jordan, Bentley and I walked the waterline to check the screens at the
beginning of the water system. The start of the system is a half culvert in the
creek which diverts water to two large metal tanks. Black pipe takes the water
from these tanks down to camp where it passes through jets to charge a series
of batteries. On top of these tanks are screens to keep debris out of the
piping. This must be cleaned regularly to keep the water system running
smoothly.
Following this task, I
cleaned up the kitchen to prepare for making kimchi. Kristy went up to the hoop
houses to do some gardening and then camp up to the house and offered to make
the kimchi. I was more than happy to oblige since I had had enough of the
kitchen yesterday.
Since I was freed of
kitchen duty, I went to fix the guard rail on the zip line and the pull-up bar
in our workout area. This was just a matter of finding the right sized lug nuts
and drill attachment to drill them in. I had never done this before, so it was
a good experience.
In the evening I removed
some rails from the banya porch because they had rotted and needed to be
replaced. After this, I weeded the sitting area for awhile with Kristy. Today
wasn’t the most fun of days, but sometimes the work out here just has to be
done. I’m looking forward to some building projects tomorrow!
