June 6

I can’t think of a better way to wake up than with a beautiful sunrise at 5:30 AM (no sarcasm here folks!).
Sunrise from my treehouse.
After having some nice personal time, I went up to the hoop houses to defoliate the chive forest that was taking over the rhubarb patch. This took about an hour and by then Jordan and Bentley were up. Upon Ginger’s suggestion we took a kayak ride out on the strait. We didn’t see any porpoises, but it was still beautiful out there.
Jordan, Bentley and I out in the kayak.
The afternoon was pretty relaxing, Jordan and I puttered around doing odd projects and I spent a fair amount of time outside reading. In the early evening I took a hike through the woods and up to the base of the mountain. It was gorgeous but also covered in gnarly salmon berry bushes and convoluted alder trees.
View from the lower part of the mountain on my hike.
Right after I got back Ginger radioed that she was back with the 5th year returning volunteer Heidi. It was exciting to have someone new on camp and have everyone together again. We ended the day with drinks and hotdogs on the grill, a satisfying end to the day in my opinion.
