June 12

This morning was overcast and cloudy which meant I did not feel like getting up in the morning. But there’s always work to be done, so I got up and started my day by feeding the chickens. The first and only task I did today was weed whacking around the greenhouses and then pulling weeds by hand around other structures.

Before weed-whacking.
The first round of weeding went fine, but the second was another story. The weed-whacker decided it was going to be difficult, so I had to refill the oil, gas, and replace the line in it before I could go around again. Then the hand pulling took a good chunk of time with all the pots, beds, and other items in the yard.

Despite being hard work, the end product was well worth the effort. Now the area is nice and relaxing and will make working up there much easier than before.

After weed-whacking.
After that chore was done, the group went on a short hike through the woods. This trail was short but tough with the steep hillside. We saw fox feces, felled trees, and a cool little waterfall. By the time we got back, it was time for dinner preparations. We made pizzas and baked banana muffins in the oven. Who says you can’t treat yourself in the Alaskan bush? We also had time to make a 7-Up cake for tomorrow with blueberry frosting from fresh blueberries. Yum. All in all it was another great day at Mystic Mountain.
