After a late night last
night, I decided to sleep in. That doesn’t mean that the work is going to wait though. I started by finishing the horseradish patch I worked on yesterday.
Cardboard had to be cut to fit around the plant to block weeds and then leaf
litter was placed on the cardboard. It looks quite beautiful now and is also
growing some good food!
The rest of the morning I
finished the honey bucket sign and let it dry. After lunch it was time to chop
the copious amounts of chives that have been sitting in the kitchen for the
past few days. To my surprise this ended up taking almost 3 hours! I’m glad
their cut, but I really don’t want to do that again anytime soon.
The remainder of the
afternoon was spent planting vegetables in the outdoor beds. We planted beets,
radishes, lettuce, carrots, and rutabagas. I can’t wait to eat the produce
later this summer. Just as we were about to call it a day, I remembered that we
needed to hang the strawberries that were planted a couple weeks ago. Luckily
this job went by quickly.
The best part of a sweaty
work day? Banya time, which also means shower time. It felt great to sweat away
the muck and grime of a long day’s work in the gardens. Then Ginger prepared
sockeye salmon, rice, and a delicious salad. What a great end to the day.
