This morning we got a
call from Vic on the VHF saying that he had an altercation with a deck hand
that ended with a few bruises on Vic’s part. Wasn’t what we were expecting this
morning but then again nothing is ever expected here.
Ginger finished canning
some bone broth and other miscellaneous kitchen projects when I brought up my
departure. Stan and Ginger thought it best if Stan and I took a short trip into
town to buy my plane ticket home. As sad as I was that I had to, getting a
ticket at a reasonable price is important. We left in the early afternoon
following our Halibut ground line escapade.
The halibut ground line
is a line with hooks spaced out along it that is anchored to the ocean floor to
catch halibut. We set the line out just before noon and checked it a couple of
hours later. We didn’t have a single fish! As disappointing as this was, it was
still cool to see how the ground line is operated.
Once in town I went to
work on my town duties which included errands from Ginger and some tasks that
required the internet. As much as I love the disconnect at the homestead, it
can make catching up on emails and news exhausting.
