At
the top of the list once again was gardening. I went straight to the
greenhouses after breakfast and planted more greens for salads and rutabagas.
Then I transplanted some celery sprouts and a big clump of chives. The chives
are a good plant to grow but peas don’t like them so I put them in their own
pot outside.
Ginger
came up a little later and then we both went to work pulling lamb’s quarter
from one of the greenhouses. Lamb’s quarter is an indigenous weed in Alaska
that’s good to eat but if it seeds in the greenhouses it’ll take over. This
took up to lunch time.
After a short break Jordan, Bentley, and I pulled the leaves from all the lamb’s quarter that was harvested from the greenhouse. Bentley and Jordan didn’t get up and go to the house until 2:00 PM, so this was their first task of the day.

After
the lamb’s quarter was finished, Ginger and I took a boat ride to another
homestead owned by a woman named Kathy. We planned on weeding her garden for
her, but it was so overgrown we decided we would give her some pots of things
instead. It wasn’t a wasted trip however because we found a few treasures on
the beach and I got some cool pictures.

Upon
our arrival back, we found Bentley and Jordan raking up the clippings from
Jordan’s earlier weed-whacking. I went to start the banya and Ginger cleaned
off the mooring anchor line before starting dinner. We had a delicious dinner
of sweet potato wedges, black cod, and salad. Of course, we ended the day with
a fantastic banya and then headed to bed.
