June 9

Today was a fun day! After packing lunches, the crew (Ginger, Heidi, Jordan, Myself, and Bentley) headed to Port Lions to fish for Sockeye salmon. The ride there was beautiful with snow-capped mountains, rolling green hills, and sharp points of slate decorating the landscape. By the time we arrived in Port Lions it was almost noon. Heidi, Jordan, Bentley, and I disembarked on the beach and started walking to Port Lions while Ginger went to go tie up the boat.

Our destination was a gorgeous waterfall that the salmon frequent when spawning. Unfortunately, the salmon were not quite there yet so fishing was a bust. That didn’t mean that we couldn’t go exploring though! The surrounding forest was dominated by large spruce trees and the lower branches and the entire ground was covered with sphagnum moss. It was absolutely stunning. After some hiking the crew headed back to the boat and we made the trek back home.

The ride back to the homestead was a heck of a trip. The waves were 4 or 5 feet high and the boat was flying up and down as we went against the waves to get home. I definitely got drenched from the spray of the waves. It was cool at first but then the wind hit my face and it made my whole face numb.

After we got back I told Bentley I would jump on the trampoline with him. It was great fun and also a good opportunity to play with Bentley a bit. After a short rest we had dinner together and then called it a day.
